Ski day 15 at Happo One

Season Day 15,  Powder 9 days, Backcountry 3 days, Telemark 0 days
Happo One 7:30-9:50
Gear:HEAD i.Supershape Magnum+Tecnica Cochise 130

I overslept this morning but I could make it for the Riesen quad lift start.

The first descender is coming down.

I am gonna join.

The first two runs were ok but it became busy.

We attempted to go to Skyline, but

It looks windy and Skyline chairlift may be crowded.

We went down to Panorama.

Panorama is in the shade and very cold.

As the lift becomes having a long queue, it is the time to leave.

Riesen quad lift is also crowded.

Nakiyama course has been opened for exit only.

Snow making machines are working hard.
The snow is wet under the machines.

I wanted to ski more, but the resort was getting full in the year-ending holidays.

Ski day 14 at Hakuba Cortina

A japow day in Hakuba-Cortina.

Season Day 14,  Powder 9 days, Backcountry 3 days, Telemark 0 days
Hakuba Cortina 8:30-9:35
Gear:BanYa M1102+Dynafit Beast
Official Snow fall 40cm, Kanayamazawa 12H 30cm

Happo Gondola starts at 7:30 and we have to depart 30 minutes earlier.
It is still dark.

The snow fall in the village is a few centimeters. Cannot expect much in Hakuba.

Then we went to Cortina.

The roof is red, not a good sign.

A new gate system has been installed and the cue becomes different.

The queue became longer at the open time.

Itadaira for the first run.

The depth was good enough without any clapping.

Hieda 2 was not officially opened but the gate was open with self responsibility.

The terrain was still bumpy but good enough.

The ticketing queue became toooo long.

And the parking queue was also long long and reached to Warabitaira.

We enjoyed japow runs in a short time.

Goryu 8:20-9:40
Gear:HEAD i.Supershape Magnum+Tecnica Cochise 130

Today we had a plan for a backcountry skiing but the terrain looked unstable.

We stayed in the resort and came to Goryu.

Nice cruising for the beginning, but

The chairlifts got crowded and it was cold.

I just want to ski comfortably as many as I want.

Ski day 12 at Happo One

Season Day 12,  Powder 8 days, Backcountry 3 days, Telemark 0 days
Happo One 8:00-9:00
Gear:BanYa M1102+Dynafit Beast
Official Snow fall 20cm, Sarukura 12H 23cm

It was snowing since last evening but it was raining all the day yesterday.
I wonder how much it snowed after the rain.

A few centimeters on the car roof.

The cue becomes longer at the gondola station.

Usagi for the first run.

Looks shallow.

I went down to Tanuki but the slope was bumpy despite of the fresh snow.

Second run.

People stopped on the rough slope. I know what they feel.
It was no fun.

I checked Skyline course but,

The slope looks untracked but there should be hidden something icy or rocky.
It was stressful to go carefully.

I finished in one hour. More snow fall is required.

I bought used boots yesterday.

I ran on well-groomed Panorama.

The clouds broke.

I attempted three runs but I could got four in a good pace.

Breakfast on the way back.

I spent time efficiently.

Ski day 10 at Mt. Hakuba-Norikura

Blue sky, great powder.

Season Day 10,  Powder 7 days, Backcountry 3 days, Telemark 0 days
Mt. Hakuba-Norikura 9:14-12:01
Gear:Teneighty GUN+Dynafit Beast
Distance today 8.9km, climb 807m, duration 2:46, avg speed 3.2km/h, burned 902kcal

We are going BC skiing today in Tsugaike.
There is some avalanche hazard today, we have to go carefully.

Long cue of Tsugaike Gondola lift.

Departing at 9:14.

Nice view.

Arriving at Tenguppara in 1 hour.

Today we have to be cautious of avalanches. We dug a hole for the safety check.

The rain layer is 70cm beneath but looks stable.

Then we came up to the place exactly same as last week at 11:20, in 2 hours including digging a hole.

We are glad to see more obstacles have been covered with the snow than last week.

My new boots, Dynafit Beast, bought yesterday. Very comfortable to walk.

Here we go now.

Great powder just like last week.

Nice tracks.

There were some wind slab collapse on the main slope of Mt. Hakuba-Norikura.
Safety first with careful consideration.

Ski day 9 at Happo One

Season Day 9,  Powder 6 days, Backcountry 2 days, Telemark 0 days
Happo One 8:00-9:25
Official Snow fall 20cm, Sarukura 12H 16cm

The forecast called the snow fall after the rain yesterday, but we found the depth was not enough.

We go and check it out any way.

A long long cue for the gondola lift.

This is the national holiday.

We did two runs in Tanuki.

It was much more than we expected.
Seeing is everything.

We went to the secret area after it and finish. Good day.

Ski day 8 at Happo One

Season Day 8,  Powder 5 days, Backcountry 2 days, Telemark 0 days
Happo One 14:00-14:30

It was raining in the morning. The forecast called the snow in the  afternoon.
I completed some stuff to do until it became snow.

Happo in the afternoon.

It was snowing any way, but Usagi was closed due to the poor condition.

Panorama is the only one course today, and it was crowded.

It started snowing but the slopes were hard and rough.
There were some holes without snow.

I did two runs but that was enough.

Hope it gets better tomorrow.

Ski day 7 at Mt. Hakuba-Norikura

Backcountry powder skiing.

Season Day 7,  Powder 5 days, Backcountry 2 days, Telemark 0 days
Mt. Hakuba-Norikura 8:47-11:41
Distance today 6.8km, climb 771m, duration 2:53, avg speed 2.3km/h, burned 751kcal

Beautiful morgenrot.

My car got full of frost.

Minus 8 degrees Celsius, but the forecast calls warm weather today.

Walking up on Tsugaike trail.

There were many parties but we walked fast through the parties ahead and reached to the top.

Foot prints of a bear.

We walked carefully.

The snow fall was a little deeper, and the bushes were not buried enough. The walking was hard.

Tenguppara highland in 1 hour half.

It is a little slower due to the obstacles.

We planned to ski down on the main surface of Mt. Hakuba-Norikura-dake,

but the surface was hard packed. We turned to the south face.

Today it took 2 hours 15 minutes to the ridge.

We ski down here.

The slope was nicer than we expected.

We could climb again, but there were more than 15 people ahead of us. The fresh snow may not remain.

Going back.

We could go back without any traps.

Lunch at my favorite cafe.

There were more foreign guests than last week.
