Ski day 29 at Okuhiyo

Powder run again.

Season Day 29,  Powder 21 days, Backcountry 16 days, Telemark 2 days
Okuhiyo 8:45-11:20

Came back to Tsugaike again.

We look like the first tripper.

We worried the poor visibility in the early morning but it got sunny.

Beautiful clouds sea.

An hour walk brought us to Tenguppara,

but Mt. Hakuba-Norikura looks very windy.
We do not go further up.

To the usual face.

Yeaaaaaaaaah.

Nice runs.

Climb back to the ridge and go home.

The snow condition was just "UBD".

Tsugaike.

Taking a chair lift just for the descending gondola list.

Blue sky and beautiful snow white.

I feel guilty to leave in such a nice view, but the snow already got worse.

Ski day 28 at Happo One/Urahiyo

Nice tour with moist snow.

Season Day 28,  Powder 20 days, Backcountry 15 days, Telemark 2 days
Happo One 7:45-8:40
Urahiyo 10:45-14:00
Gear:BanYa M1102+SCARPA FREEDOM
Official Snow fall 25cm, Sarukura 12H 18cm

The snow was slushy last night.

The wet snow frozen in the morning.

We came to the gondola station.

The operation was suspended due to the hanging branch with the heavy snow.

We went back to the Kokusai parking lot and moved to Naki.

It is already late but the competition was not severe.

Kurobishi to Skyline.

And moved to Central via Tanuki to go back to Naki.

Ended with two runs.

We moved to Tsugaike.

We climbed up to the usual north face.

It took 45 minutes for me, a little longer.

Here we go.

Nice run.

We took the longer trail for climbing up.

Where are we now?

The view looks very different from the usual one with the fewer snow.

Another north face.

This run was also good despite of poor visibility and bushes.

The bottom appears in the valley.

We passed through carefully away from the bottom.

And the usual "gate" to end.

We could go through on skies.

Good runs with moist snow.

Ski day 27 at Happo One

Season Day 27,  Powder 19 days, Backcountry 14 days, Telemark 2 days
Happo One 7:30-8:00
Happo One 14:25-15:25

Gear:BanYa M1102+SCARPA FREEDOM
Official Snow fall 40cm, Sarukura 12H 18cm

Today we expected some depth of powder snow.

But the cue of the gondola lift was not so long.

The gondola was operational but the Alpen quad did not work due to the strong wind.

We went down on Panorama, but we hit the ground.

Some additional fall on the car top.

We wish it would be in the night.

We went home and got asleep again.

I expected some snow fall more in the afternoon, and came back.

Appx. 10cm on the car top.

Sakka.

This is the first time to be here in this season.

Skyline.

It was not bad, but I hit the ground.

And Kurobishi.

Then I went home via Skyline.
It was pretty good fluffy snow despite of hitting  the ground. Better than staying home.

Ski day 26 at Urahiyo

Season Day 26,  Powder 18 days, Backcountry 14 days, Telemark 2 days
Urahiyo 8:45-10:55
Gear:BanYa M1102+SCARPA FREEDOM

Today we go to Urahiyo.
The first trip to Urahiyo in this season.

Started at 8:45.

Today it was very cold and walked in a good pace. We arrived to the ridge in 35 minutes.

The snow condition was powder but the depth was shallow.

We digged a hole for snow check.

The lower layer was compressed and that was why the depth was shallow.

We walked up back to the ridge and skied down on the south face.

The south face was not bad but too bushy to go straight.

We hated annoying ski down in the resort, and we took the gondola lift down.

It was a really short time trip, though.

Ski day 25 at Hakuba Cortina/Happo One

Ski day 25 at Happo One
Season Day 25,  Powder 17 days, Backcountry 13 days, Telemark 2 days
Happo One 12:50-13:25
Gear:BanYa M1102+SCARPA FREEDOM
Official Snow fall 40cm, Sarukura 12H 18cm

Tuesday I worked in Tokyo as I expected the lifts would be closed due to the strong wind, but I failed.
I also expected Wednesday would be much better.

20cm or more on the roof.

But the upper lifts were closed due to the strong wind.

Then I switched to Cortina.

I was already late here.
A long cue at the ticketing window.

Now I am much behind.

Another long cue at the chair lift #4.

I did a favorite route as usual.

For the second run I tried the tree running.

Too bushy.

I somehow managed to descend.

After several runs I also went to Hakunori, or Hakuba-Norikura.

Ended for 1 hour and half.

It was not the best day, but still a powder day.

After lunch and being home I found Riesen quad lift got open.

And came back to the snow again.

It was windy at Usagi.

Kokusai.

Already finished.

Hopping and going in/out was not a good return on investment.
