Ski day 16 at Mt. Obinata

Nice last powder run in 2014.

16th day for this ski season, 15 days for powder, 7 days for backcountry, telemark for 1 days
Mt. Obinata 7:40-15:30

Official Snow fall 30cm, Sarukura 6H 7cm

There was some snow fall on the car in the morning.

Lawson was very much crowded, that I have never seen before.

Today we enrolled BanYa back country skiing tour.

We started at 7:40. Today we headed Mt. Obinata. I go through Obinata saddle many times, but it's been almost 10 years since we climbed up there.

Walking on Sarukura trail.

The trail got pretty much snow and we had to walk in deep.

And for ascending in deep as well.

We reached to the ridge line in 5 hours. It took much longer than usual.

We met a party climbing on the south face.

They walked in deep as well.

During the ascension it was snowing wet, and we felt very cold,

but we got the sun light for a short time with the view of Iwatake ski resort.

And beyond the south face we could see Happo-One ski resort.

Now we descend on the south face.

The snow must be kept fresh without sun lights.
We can go to the north face any time.

It had the great powder snow,

with snow sprays.

We enjoyed pretty much.

Today we just ascent in 800m but we are pretty exhausted with climbing in the deep snow.

We came down to the south trail and walked back

in the deep snow again.

The tour itself was awesome with rare experience.

We ended the year 2014 with the good tour.

Ski day 15 at Happo

The first riding on Telemark.

Happo 8:25-10:45

Official Snow fall 30cm, Sarukura 6H -cm

The parking lots are crowded in the year-ending holiday season. We started at Sakka area.

It is snowing pretty much. We would like it in the night, rather than in the day time.

At Riesen. Not clearly visible.

And the terrains were bumpy.

We visited a member lounge of the season pass.

We feel like gorgeous.

We went down on Tatekko.

The course side was deep and with much powder.

10cm snow falls over the car for two hours.

We wish it would snow at night.

Ski day 14 at Happo

Disappointing powder runs and delicious yellowtail party.

14th day for this ski season, 13 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 0 days
Happo 7:45-8:30
Gear: BanYa M1102+SCARPA FREEDOM
Official Snow fall 25cm, Sarukura 6H 18cm

Powder search called 18cm snow falls in Sarukura for 6 hours.
We believed the powder snow in Happo.

The snow on the car convinced us more.

Riding on Alpine Quad lift and we found....

The terrains were not covered enough.
The snow falls were pretty good but the bumps made by crowds in the holiday season were too deep to be covered.

We did on Sodeguro, but

bumps appear.

We went to Skyline after that.

My powder mate made good snow smokes, but the reality was not good.

Then we finished the runs at 8:30. We did only 45 minutes!

Then we went shopping to Kanazawa city.

Fish bowl for lunch at "Hikariya".

Then we bought seafood at Oumicho fish market.

Yellowtail party together with friends.

The powder was really disappointing but we enjoyed the food.

North face powder runs.

Morning in Hakuba. Beautiful Morgenrot.

however it was very very cold due to radiative cooling.

Today we also headed to Hiyodori again.

It was not windy and getting hot during climbing.

Nice view of Northern Alpes.

Today we go down on the North face, where we reserved this yesterday.
There were not so many traces.

It was good enough, but

packed due to winds.

Then we did not climb up here, and went for Wakaguri.

This terrain was awesome.

It was kept in good conditions in the shade in the early morning.

Climbing to Wakaguri from here.

Then we came to the north face that we expected.

This place was really really awesome,

and made us crazy.

It was too good to leave here.

then we climbed up again.

Enjoying.

Eventually we climbed up again and enjoyed three times.

Great powder.

Only a few tens meters descending the temperature got higher and the snow was very sticky.

We don't believe we were skiing in the powder snow.

Coming down to Hakuba-Norikura ski resort.

Thanks for the great powder snow and nice weather.

We found the bus to Tsugaike had already left.
A taxi does not come in 30 minutes,

then we decided to walk to Tsugaike. It took 25 minutes.

Ski day 12 at Hiyodori

Foreside was also good.

No fresh snow in ski resorts is expected. Now we go and see Urahiyo, our favorite backcountry area.

Tsugaike. It is not so busy yet.

Entering to the backcountry side at 8:55.

It was windy.

Nice blue sky.

We arrived at the ridge and attempted Urahiyo, but

The foreside looks better with soft surface.

Then we skied the foreside.
Awesome powder!

Then we climbed up to the ridge and saw Urahiyo.

The terrain looked a little packed with the winds.

Then we skied down on the foreside again.

We did five runs.

The foreside usually got worse due to the sun lights, but today it was kept better in the cold air.

Eventually we did not go to Urahiyo today, and enjoyed the foreside only.

Thanks for the day.
