HappoOne 13:00-16:00
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

It was raining and turned snowing in the afternoon.

The forecast said it would be raining. I got up very late.
As the forecast said, the rain turned to the snow. Now I went skiing.

The snow got less at the base.

It was raining at the base, but

turned to snow at the higher area.

Riesen was covered by few snow,

and no track.

The snow was wet and I used gondora lift.
I got several runs on Riesen and Central.

Usagi.

Upper lifts were closed and I climbed up.

Others were climbing. They said they would stay at an upper cabin.

It was not the deep snow. Probably 3cm.

Under the snow it was not frozen yet. Nicely soft and could run like powder snow.

No track.

I enjoyed very much.

Pizakaya for diner.

HappoOne 8:00-11:00 13:45-16:30
Gear: BanYa M1102+GARMONT RADIUM

The second last powder day.

I always say, this is the second last powder day, wishing the next one.

It was snowing all the day. I got up early and wondered either of Cortina or Happo one.

It snowed 10cm deep at the base.

Now we got to HappoOne.

Gondola station.

A long cue already, but a few powder junkies.

Usagi.

Looks good!

The ski poles are the one my powder mate left.

I had no pictures while I was running in the powder snow.
We enjoyed much.

Coffee break. Usually the coffee is free by 10am, but I paid after 10am.

I thank for the free coffee.

Buckwheat noodle for lunch.
100% pure buckwheat. Rich flavor.

I came back home and worked some.

I would finish it, but it was still snowing.
No reason to quit. Then I went again.

I attempted to have telamark ski, but it snowed 10cm deep already.
Now, it should be Alpine.

I put on BanYa M1102 again.

We skied much until the close time.

Nice powder day.

I came back to the parking and found the car was covered with 10cm snow again.

Ramen for diner.

Still good tomorrow. It's a shame I cannot be here.

I knew it was raining.
I got up early but found it was raining. I got asleep again.
We went to Hakuba Sanosaka in the afternoon.

Mogul course was easy with soft snow.

It was snowing while we took a break.

Looks good tomorrow.
I went up HappoOne for foreseeing the condition.

It was getting deep at Grat.

But the visibility was flatlight.
I could not see the slope and fell down twice.

Is it good tomorrow?

Ski day 39 at HappoOne

39th day for this ski season, 22 days for powder, 9 days for backcountry, telemark for 13 days
HappoOne 8:00-10:35
Gear: BanYa M0809
HappoOne 11:15-12:45
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

Beautiful blue sky.

Nice breezing air in the morning.

I could not make the first ride, but I could be there at 8am.

Nice grooming. Nice to run on Alpine ski.

Riesen for the first run.

The terrain was hard, but good to run fast.

Bumps of Usagi looked hard. Hesitated to go in.

Grat, the top of the area.

Hakuba summits looked beautiful.

Then I went down on Skyline. It was also nice to run.

A cup of coffee and the newspaper.

Then I went down on Panorama and came home.

Got together with my wife. I changed to telemark skies.
We went down on Riesen again.

It became windy and the terrains became hard.

We ended early.

Bankok-ya, a Thai food restaurand for lunch.

Ski day 38 at CharMont

38th day for this ski season, 22 days for powder, 9 days for backcountry, telemark for 12 days
CharMont 8:30-12:30
Gear: BanYa M1102+GARMONT RADIUM

A weekday powder skiing.

Last night the forecast said the fresh snow in 20-30cm at CharMont. It would not snow much in Hakuba. Then I should go to CharMont. Probably the last powder snow in a ski resort.

I got up at 5.30, and left Hakuba at 6.15.

It did not snow much in Hakuba.
The sun had already risen at 6.15.

The road was covered with the snow. Probably this will be the last time to see the road covered with the snow.

I passed Nou IC and had to go to the next IC, Nadachi-Tanihama.
30km loss for a round. Hmmm.

I could be CharMont in time. I gotta go now.

Today is the day.

Flatlight up there. It is good for no track, but I could not see the surface.

I could see it after several runs and several trails.

A local person asked me about my BanYa ski.
Then I ran together.

A few years ago I came here and knew the paths to the good powder zone, but I forgot them since I have been to Cortina in these days.
He showed me the paths. Thanks.

After a coffee break we ran until the time limit of my half-day ticket.

Very light powder snow and without hitting the bottom.
I enjoyed the last powder.

I took Sushi for lunch. Japan Sea side is a good place to have Sushi.

While I was running on terrains I lost my Thermos bottle. I had to buy a new one.

Ski day 37 at Hakuba47/Hakuba Goryu

37th day for this ski season, 21 days for powder, 9 days for backcountry, telemark for 12 days
Hakuba47/Hakuba Goryu 12:05-14:30
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

I went to Hakuba47, connected to Hakuba Goryu.

I do not come often here.

I had to run quickly until it rained.

It was foggy up there.

Came down to Goryu.

A crab soup, 100Yen.

The taste was good but the service was awful. They sold a rice ball with pork in 350 yen and the crab soup was free. I ordered it but they insisted me to go to the other long cue for it!

I did several runs in Goryu, and came back to Hakuba 47.

It started raining.

Now the time to end.

Only two hours and half but it was good condition for telemark.

Ski day 36 at HappoOne

36th day for this ski season, 21 days for powder, 9 days for backcountry, telemark for 11 days
HappoOne 12:50-13:40
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

I knew it was raining today, but depressing...

The begining od this week there was powder snow. The condition was kept good in the cold weather.
But it is raining on Saturday and Sunday.
The low pressure in the south of Japan brings rain to Tokyo and Hakuba, nothing good for us.

I got up at 11.30.
There was no reason to go skiing, but I just want to ski everytime I come to Hakuba.

It was raining and I took the gondola lift.

Raining heavily. Drops came from the ventilator.

I knew I am stupid, but there were others.

It snowed 10cm in the morning.

But the rain spoiled at all.

I came up to the top,

But it was still raining.

I skied twice.

I totally got wet.

My sweets -Day 4(Taneya)

4days for this season
For an article on March 14th.

In Japan March 14th is called a White Day, when a male gives back to a female for St. Valentine's day.
As a typical scene gentlemen were buying sweets at a department store.
There were long cues at famous brand stores like LADURÉE and Pierre Marcolini, but a traditional Japanese sweet is much more valuable.

Seasonal Japanese sweets:
(from the top)
Sakura mochi, or a rice cake and bean paste wrapped with cherry blossom leaf
Yaki sakura, or a baked rice cake with cherry blossom flavor and bean paste
Kusamochi, or a rice‐flour dumpling mixed with mugwort

Ski day 35 at Minekata

35th day for this ski season, 21 days for powder, 9 days for backcountry, telemark for 10 days
Minekata 10:30-13:30
Gear: BanYa M0809

HappoOne shut me out, and I went to Minekata.

Today I wanted to go to HappoOne from the open time but I was very exhausted by the late work.

I got up at 8.30 and left home 9.30.
HappoOne had a ski sampling trial, where I wanted to try.

But all parking lots were full. The staff did not tell me where was vacant.
The other side was probably vacant, but I left my ski set home.

I came back home and picket my ski, then went to

Minekata.

This is the first time to ski here.
My season ticket is also available here, and I wanted to come here this season.

I found today is the last day of this ski area.

For the first run I went to non-groomed course. Looked powder!??

Very crusty.

Then I run down the groomed course.

There were few people there and I could run fast.

I walked from the end of the lift to the peak.

Nice view.

I came here for MTB ride in summer and autumn.

Looks nice trail for backcountry ski.

A resthouse in the middle.

I knew this place. I have tried a cake made by this patisrie before.

Apple torte.

After the break I ran fast again.

Getting cloudy, as the forecast said.

I skiied for three hours nicely.

After ski, we enjoyed coffee and cakes.
