Ski day 23 at HappoOne

23rd day for this ski season, 13 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 6 days
HappoOne 11:00-14:00
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

Today I went to HappoOne.

Attempted to go to Cortina, but it did not seem snow much.
(I heard it snowed and covered the trails later)

Nicely sunny day.

It was a weekday and I could go fast. I should take alpen skies instead of telemark.

Hüttenzauber for lunch.

Good taste and reasonable price.

I left my wife here and go up to the mountain to pick up my car parked at the other side.

Doraemon at the Nakiyama lift.

When I came up to Usagi, the sky became cloudy and I could not see the terrains well in flatlight.

I cannot see well in flatlight. Probably farsightedness.

It was a short time but nice riding in the good weather.

Hakuba Cortina 8:30-11:45

Today we went to Hakuba Cortina again.

These two days were probably the best days in this season.

I was thinking over a person who was supposed to be here today.

Ski day 20 at HappoOne

20th day for this ski season, 11 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 5 days
HappoOne 10:00-16:00

Today I went to Happo.

It was snowing last night but there was not much snow in the morning.
I got start late.

Grat, I walked up yesterday has been now open.

The sea of clouds.

Hakuba summits were seen beautiful.

There was fresh powder snow yesterday, but there was not any more today. It already became rough and bumpy.
The snow was good. I skiied there for several runs.

I joined to Mr. and Mrs. M at lunch.

Happo burger at Snow Plaza Sakka. I knew the burger but this is the first time to eat. Very good.

After lunch I skiied with Mr. and Mrs. M.
Several runs at Sakka and went to Panorama.

We skiied long.

The forecast told it would snow today, but the weather was good.

Ski day 19 at HappoOne

19th day for this ski season, 11 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 5 days
HappoOne 8:15-14:15

On Friday it snowed in Tokyo.
The highway to Nagano was covered by the snow.

Yokokaha Service Area had some snow.

In such a day it does not snow in Hakuba.

Today I went to Happo. I started early.

The first run was on Riesen, but I wanted to climb up.

Grat. It had been closed but it would be open tomorrow.
Today is the last day here as a backcountry skiing.

Climbed up.

It was not good enough for Alpine skiing, but nice for telemark skiing.

I attepmted just one run, but my snow mate came up. We climbed up together.

The patrol team was coming for tomorrow.

The second run was also nice.

Had a short break at Panorama.

Free coffee is provided here until 10am. We came just before the time.

For lunch we went down Riesen and went to an Austrian restaurant Hüttenzauber.

Gulasch was good.

I went up again for picking up my car at the different base.

Very fogy at Usagitaira.

I was almost ending up but I found the snow mate were coming back.
And we skiied together again.

We found a mascot of "Garigari-kun", a main character of a very famous Japanese ice candy bar.

Sooner, he was surrounded by people.

We got a sample of the ice candy bar.

Chinese for diner.

Ski day 18 at HappoOne

18th day for this ski season, 10 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 4 days
HappoOne 11:00-13:30

Today I went to a test ride of iD One Ski at HappoOne.
iD One Ski is famous that Aiko Uemura, a mogul athelete is riding on.

I hardly ride on such ski sets. It is very new to me.

1,500yen/day for free riding. 1,000yen ticket for prior application is also available.
They give us a coupon of 1,500yen. Therefore it is a free ride if you buy something there.

The first one was "sr-nx".

Very easy and free-riding ski.
It has a good response when I go into rough area in high speed.
Very interesting to me, as I hardly ride on such category ski sets.
I realized that how much different I am skiing.

The next one is "Freeride PC"

PC means "Powder Control", designed for powder riding.
It has closer impression to my ski sets than "sr-nx".

The width "126-89-116" is still thin for powder riding, though.

It is not possible to run fast at Hakuba Cortina Hieda #2 or #3 on this ski.
It looked good on rough area.

The last one was a mogul ski, that's the basic of iD One.

"Mogul Ride SE"

Wow, very thin!!

The width is "95-61-85". It's half of my fat ski BanYa M1102!!

For a short break I ate fried curry bread at Usagi Taira Terrace.

I hardly eat in ski areas in Hakuba. This is also new to me.

For riding on the mogul ski,

Usagi terrain got flatlight and I could not see gaps.

It was very natural ski for riding at normal speed.
It was pity not to ride much faster, where the ski really has the spec.

Most of upper area got flatlight and we finish then.

We got late lunch at Coffee Senju.

Buckwheat noodle for diner.

Foreigners' (probably Aussie) group almost occupied the restaurant. It's good to have them. THey looked enjoying Sake.

Ski day 17 at Hakuba Cortina

17th day for this ski season, 10 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 4 days
Hakuba Cortina 9:00-13:00
Gear: BanYa M1102+GARMONT RADIUM

Yesterday it was snowing at night. I expected a powder day but it did not snow in the morning in Hakuba.

A weather channel told me it snowed in Otari village.
Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort in Facebook told me new snow depth 35cm at 4am.
Too much snow may close there, but I tried Cortina anyway.

The roof of the hotel was red (A jinx says the red roof is a sign of fewer snow).
But the risk of course close looked fewer.

Guests put ski or board in order as they come.

Resort staff located ski and boards in the exact order in the cue.
Good customer service!

I was very late and there were tens people ahead of me.
I almost gave up but tried Hieda course 3 anyway.

No one was there!
I was the first one.
Now the time to enjoy riding on BanYaski. The ski ran fast!!

My trail.

The cue was long for the lift #4, but

the woods were not busy.
I relaxed riding.

Backcountry side.

This side was also good. The snow was not deep yet, though.

The water flowed a little at the dam.

You can go through on your ski, but the wet ski will be frozen later.

It was a good powder day.

I was skiing until the time limit of a half day ticket.

Ski day 16 at HappoOne

16th day for this ski season, 9 days for powder, 6 days for backcountry, telemark for 4 days
HappoOne 8:40-13:00
Gear: Pocket Rocket(Telemark)+GARMONT ENER-G

Continued from Ski day 15 at Mt.Hakuba-Norikura

Today I went to HappoOne.

I attempted to go for the first run on the groomed Riesen, but I woke up at 6:30 and found it snowed a little.
I looked out at 7am again and it started snowing much. It looked like good snowing for telemark skiing.

The lift was not croweded in the bad (for powder junkie, "good") weather.

I went to Skyline course.

Alpen skiing would hit the bottom, but it was good for telemark skiing.

Early lunch at Bangkok-ya, Thai food restaurant.

A lodge located at Nakiyama is closed in this season.

This lodge served good bread called "Naki-bread".
I was here last february and ate the bread. It is pitty to lose it.

I made several runs and ended up.

It was good powder skiing that I hadn't expected.
